ElectraMeccanica to show its SOLO EV single-seater electric vehicle (EV) in UK

ElectraMeccanica, the Canadian designer and manufacturer of unique electric vehicles (EV) for city and suburban motoring, will be showcasing their SOLO EV in the UK. This will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23-26.

ElectraMeccanica says they are rethinking electric mobility for the way we will work, live and play in the 21st century and beyond. The unique-looking SOLO EV is a compact, single-seat, three-wheel vehicle with high-tech features and offers ample storage.

The SOLO EV looks like a regular car from the front and tapers towards the rear single wheel. It has a top speed of 80mph (129kph) and offers a range of up to 100 miles (161km). This makes it ideal for urban use and shorter commuting duties.

Currently, no UK or European prices have been released but the SOLO EV starts from $$18,500 (£15,154/€17,600) in the USA. ElectraMeccanica also offer a SOLO EV cargo version with prices starting from $24,500 (£20,000/€23,300),

It’s good to see the electric car fall below the £20,000 threshold and see electric cars become more affordable. That said, it’s still considerably more than Citroen’s Ami 100% ëlectric and My Ami Cargo which can be purchased from £7,695 or for £19.99 per month on a Personal Contract Purchase.

Kevin Pavlov, ElectraMeccanica CEO, said: “The way we know travel today is outdated. Everything, from infrastructure to fuelling, parking and delivery, was built for and around the car instead of people – and as our needs, lifestyles and behaviours have changed, so too must the way we get around.

“At ElectraMeccanica, we’re embracing and building for that long-awaited change – and modernising mobility for what it needs to be today. I’m immensely looking forward to seeing the UK’s reaction to SOLO first-hand at Goodwood.”
