Global transportation firm, DSV is set to deploy 10 Windrose Class 8 electric trucks on the Texan corridor between Dallas, San Antonio, and border city of Laredo. Working alongside transportation partner Allogic and charging infrastructure provider Greenspace E-Mobility, the deployment is the first commercial fleet activation to take place on Greenspace’s Electric Highway – a charging network under development linking Monterrey, Mexico to Dallas, Texas, via the I-35.
The I-35 corridor is one of the most important freight routes in North America, with the crossing into Laredo, Mexico processing over 20,000 trucks daily in a key asset for US–Mexico trade. Electrifying it has long been seen as one of the bigger prizes in zero-emission freight, and this initial 10-truck deployment is a first step towards that goal.
Greenspace E-Mobility, acting as Windrose’s strategic infrastructure partner across South Texas and Mexico, is building a network of dedicated charging hubs along the route. The intial phase targets four hubs operational in Texas by the final quarter of this year, offering charging speeds ranging from from 400kW up to Megawatt Charging System (MCS) levels engineered specifically for Class 8 trucks. Each hub also integrates on-site solar generation and battery storage, allowing operations to continue even when grid capacity is constrained.
The Windrose trucks being used are also perfectly suited to the task at hand. The Windrose Gen 2 E700 units offer more than 400 miles of range between charges, allowing for just one brief charging stop along the 400-plus mile Dallas-Laredo route.
Phase two of the project, targeted to begin in 2027, will extend infrastructure into Monterrey and the Colombia-Nuevo León international bridge crossing, adding 25 more Windrose trucks and completing the first fully electric cross-border freight route between Mexico and the United States. At full buildout, the Monterrey-Dallas corridor will comprise six Green Hubs purpose-built for electric freight.
