- DHL Express has announced the rollout of 45 fully-electric Mercedes-Benz eSprinter vans, continuing the global partnership between DHL and Mercedes-Benz that has already seen over 10,000 eSprinter vans integrated into its fleet worldwide.
- All 45 vehicles will be delivered by the end of the month, being deployed for pickup and delivery services in cities such as Chicago, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh.
- The move comes as DHL works towards a target for 66% of its last-mile delivery vehicles to be electrified by 2030, as the firm looks towards an EV future.
DHL to carry out cleaner US deliveries with new eSprinter fleet
The new electric Mercedes vans will be used within its pickup and delivery fleet across a number of key urban areas across the states, with its respectable battery range and payload capacity highly suiting it to the task in question.
The new eSprinters promise 206 miles of range from the factory, but we’ve already seen how a high proportion of driving taking places at lower, urban speeds can take battery range further than the claimed figures. That’s the same in DHL’s case, where it has regularly seen the eSprinter exceeding 240 miles between chargers. This unofficial figure makes it the longest range EV within its US fleet to date.
To support the rollout of the new electric vans, DHL is also installing depot charging infrastructure in the locations of deployment, allowing vans to easily be charged up between shifts and routes.
Greg Hewitt, CEO of DHL Express U.S, commented:
“Electrifying our fleet is one of the most visible and impactful ways we are moving toward a more sustainable future. The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter brings an extended range and proven cargo capabilities that allow us to serve our customers with zero emissions, while also advancing our global goal of more sustainable logistics. These vehicles not only strengthen our operations in major U.S. cities but also set the stage for future electric fleet growth across the Americas.”
Jee-Seop Kim, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Vans North America, added:
“The eSprinter represents the next generation of electric mobility for commercial fleets – combining range, cargo capacity, and reliability in a way that meets the demands of modern logistics. We’re proud to see our partnership with DHL Express expand into the U.S., where the eSprinter’s performance and versatility will support their high-efficiency operations.”
