Decathlon in Stockport, UK, is launching a 15-bay ultra-rapid charging hub with a huge launch event

Decathlon Stockport has launched the region’s largest ultra-rapid charging hub. The 15-bay hub, installed by Be.EV, is just minutes from the M60.

The new ultra-rapid chargers deliver up to 165 miles of range in just 20 minutes, a major upgrade compared to standard chargers that take several hours. This matches the typical customer dwell time at Decathlon, which is around 30 minutes.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO and founder of Be.EV, said:

”It’s an honour to bring ultra-rapid, ultra-convenient EV charging to Decathlon shoppers, and provide Stockport with a new, reliable way to charge their vehicle.

Charging hubs like these are required nationwide if the country is to successfully transition to cleaner transport, and Decathlon is leading the way when it comes to EV charging in the EV space.

Other retailers should take note. As more and more people choose to drive EVs, they’ll naturally gravitate to destinations where they can conveniently charge their car whilst shopping.”

The hub will open on Sunday, the 8th of September. To celebrate the launch, Be.EV is offering half-price charging for app users between 12 pm and 2 pm. You can even go and enjoy a free padel taster session while you charge. Furthermore, Decathlon will provide ebikes for test rides on the day.

That’s not all, the event will feature a test drive experience with the Porsche Taycan, courtesy of Stockport Porsche. Octopus Electric Vehicles will also demonstrate using EVs to power home appliances with Vehicle to Load technology.

Liam Fillingham, Real Estate Leader at Decathlon, said:

“Decathlon aims to move people through the wonders of sport with a strong focus on sustainability.

The Stockport site is a great example of this in action. Not only do we have a fantastic store with many eco-designed products and services, now we also have our partners Be.EV and Soul Padel. So please, join us at the launch day on 8th September to see it for yourself.”

With the addition of this site, Decathlon Stockport becomes part of the largest public EV charging network in the North West. It’s an impressive reminder of the power of partnerships in accelerating the infrastructure rollout.
