Dacia has confirmed that second generation of its Spring electric city car will arrive soon, with the new model shifting production from China to Europe for the first time. The change is a significant strategic move, and will restore access to EU purchase incentives and dodge EU import tariffs that apply to the outgoing model built in China.
The new Spring continues a nameplate that already sold over 200,000 units across Europe since launching in 2021. Dacia says the second generation keeps the formula that built that success: a fully electric powertrain, seating for four adults, and a well-sized boot. The original Dacia Spring was one of the most affordable electric cars on sale in Europe, and we can expect this latest Spring to follow that trend.
Production will move to Renault’s car plant in Slovenia, where the car will share lines with the upcoming Renault Twingo E-Tech. The new Spring is expected to share many of its underpinnings with the Twingo, helping to streamline production and bring associated costs down.
The new Spring is expected to be fully revealed at the Paris Motor Show this October, when further details should follow. Pricing remains unconfirmed, but rumoured platform sharing with the Twingo suggests the Spring’s pricing could land in line with or even undercut its Renault sibling, which itself is expected to start under £20,000/€20,000.
