- The first all-electric car from Dacia, the Spring, was debuted in 2020, but the OEM has already decided to freshen up the EV with a facelifted model.
- This facelift also comes as the Spring is available in right-hand-drive form for the first time, widening its target market.
- Despite the modernised design, price remains identical to the outgoing version.
Is the Dacia Spring an even more attractive budget EV with its update?
Whilst still the same underlying car, the visual changes are pretty extensive, with a redesigned front and rear that brings its design language up to date with other new Dacia models such as the Duster.
Price has remained the same from the outgoing iteration, but the recent addition of a slightly more expensive ‘extreme’ trim level, with a 65 hp electric motor instead of the standard 45 hp motor, makes the Spring an even more attractive EV for those embarking on longer journeys, also made possible with its rated range of 140 miles. While that range may seem small in comparison to many EVs, it’s found the perfect use case for many of its owners. Data collected by Dacia shows that the average Spring driver travels just 37km (22.9 miles) per day, with 75% of these cars being recharged overnight at home.
Over 150,000 Dacia Springs have already been sold in Europe since its launch, and the recent facelift also marks the launch of a right-hand-drive model for the UK, which order books have already opened for. Expect to pay from £14,995 for the 45 hp ‘Expression’ model, and £16,995 for the 65 hp, top-of-the-range ‘Extreme’ model. Either of these still seriously undercut some of the current best cheapest EVs on the market.
David Durand, Vice President of Design at Dacia, commented:
“As Spring embraces the brand’s new design language, it is a resolute sign that it is here to stay as a key member of the Dacia family. We gave it a serious and confident design. Building on the success of the previous generation, the New Spring confidently asserts its own identity.”
