- CUPRA UK has launched a new promotional return policy on its electric Born hatchback.
- Under the new policy, called ‘Love me or Leave me’, owners of new Born models, either purchased outright or on finance, will be able to return the car free of charge for any reason, up to three months after purchase – minus any costs for mileage or damage.
- Combined with the offer of a free home charger, courtesy of Ohme, and 10,000 miles worth of free home charging through OVO, the offer could make EVs a more attractive option for those that are hesitant to make the switch.
CUPRA’s new return policy is generous, but will other manufacturers follow?
The offer will be available on all specification levels of the Cupra Born, from the most affordable £35,495 Born V1, up to the £44,625 electric hot hatch that is the Born VZ. Overwhelmingly, EV drivers are happy with their purchase – with 91% of EV drivers having no intention of going back to a diesel or petrol car after their purchase, according to research from EVA England – but this feeling is often not realised until after purchase, with a significant proportion of private buyers in the UK still opting for ICE and hybrid models from new.
A free returns scheme like this, combined with the Ohme and OVO offers, could convince more to pick an EV as their new car purchase, especially amongst those more hesitant. Extended EV test drives are another strategy to boost consumer confidence, which manufacturers such as Ford are trialling in the UK, with EVs like the new Explorer. Sales figures coming out of CUPRA over the next year or so will tell whether this new policy makes a difference.
Marcus Gossen, Director of SEAT and CUPRA UK, commented:
“It is safe to say that the new scheme is ground-breaking and will give many drivers who have considered an electric car the impetus to make the leap. CUPRA Born is already a compelling proposition, bringing performance, great range, sporty styling and an outstanding interior into one package that owners tell us they love. But, if the experience doesn’t suit their lifestyle and a driver doesn’t gel with EV ownership, they can hand the keys back after three months.”
