Connecting Camden with on-street charging: Trojan Energy to install 570 public charge points in the London Borough

  • Camden Council partners with Trojan Energy to install 570 flat and flush® on-street EV charge points across the borough.
  • The new chargers provide convenient on-street charging for residents without driveways, using personal adaptors and underground cables.
  • Trojan Energy will install the first 70 charge points in July 2025, completing the full rollout by 2026.

Camden rolls out convenient on-street charging with Trojan Energy to accelerate EV adoption

Camden is tackling one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption—convenient public charging. The borough has awarded a major contract to Trojan Energy to install 570 flat and flush® EV charge points. These chargers, embedded into the pavement, will provide an accessible on-street charging solution for residents without driveways.

For many city dwellers, home charging isn’t an option. Without easy access to charging, switching to an EV becomes difficult. With the new public charge points, drivers will simply connect their vehicles using a personal adaptor, with power delivered via underground cables.

This initiative builds on a successful 2022 trial of Trojan Energy’s charge points, which received positive feedback from residents. Now, Camden is expanding the network with support from the On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS). Trojan will install the first 70 charge points in July 2025, with the full rollout expected by 2026, subject to location availability.

Ian Mackenzie, CEO of Trojan Energy, commented:

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Camden Council. Trojan Energy’s mission has always been to ensure everyone benefits from the energy transition. After the huge success of our trials in 2022, we are delighted to now be able to support the Borough’s ambition towards sustainable travel, the switch to EVs, and to help residents who are keen to see many more of our charge points rolled out across Camden.”

Unlike many traditional charging stations, these flat and flush chargers keep pavements clear, ensuring easy accessibility. A smart parking sensor system will also improve availability, allowing more drivers to charge without needing dedicated bays.

Councillor Adam Harrison, Cabinet Member for Planning and a Sustainable Camden, added:

“Our rollout of hundreds more EV charge points will help us meet the objectives we set out in Camden’s Transport Strategy, which aims to deliver a sustainable transport system and streets that are accessible and inclusive for all. Supporting electric vehicles and car clubs will make it easier for residents who want to make the shift to EVs. By promoting active travel such as walking and cycling and facilitating this shift to electric vehicles with convenient charging points, we hope to improve air quality, reduce emissions, and support environmental resilience across the borough.”
