Connected Kerb acquires Trojan Energy, in on-street EV charging expansion

UK on-street charging network Connected Kerb has acquired Trojan Energy, marking another consolidation of the UK EV charging industry.
  • Consolidation within the on-street EV charging sector has taken place this week, with UK EV charging network Connected Kerb announcing the acquisition of Trojan Energy.
  • Trojan Energy pioneered a flat and flush on-street charging system, with an existing network within the UK – however, the company had fell into administration earlier this week.
  • With the new acquisition, Connected Kerb will now maintain the 1,500 Trojan Energy charging points already live across the UK, whilst adding the flat and flush charging technology into its own product portfolio.

Trojan Energy saved by Connected Kerb after it falls into administration

Connected Kerb has already been pushing to significantly expand its nationwide on-street EV charging network, and this new acquisition will come as a crucial asset. The 1,500 chargers previously operated by Trojan Energy will now be under Connected Kerb’s ownership, whilst Trojan Energy’s employees will also be retained, bringing fresh engineering expertise and leadership to the firm.

The acquisition also means Connected Kerb can offer on-street charging in more areas, thanks to now having a more diverse portfolio of EV charging technology – with Trojan Energy’s ‘flat and flush’, subsurface systems being of particular benefit to gaining approval for public chargers in heritage listed areas.

With an estimated 60% of UK households not having access to off-street parking, public charging will be one of the primary methods of recharging for EV drivers in these households, alongside pavement channel solutions. Connected Kerb is set to play a significant part in this future, with a significant number of its public charging points located on residential streets.

Chris Pateman-Jones, CEO of Connected Kerb, commented:

“This acquisition marks a pivotal moment in our mission to make reliable, accessible EV charging available to everyone, especially those without driveways. Trojan’s cutting-edge subsurface technology perfectly complements Connected Kerb’s long-life, smart charging infrastructure. Together, we’re building a future where clean transport is easy, equitable, and built for all communities.”

Ian Mackenzie, CEO of Trojan Energy, added:

“This deal brings Trojan Energy’s pioneering Flat & Flush charge points inside one of the UK’s largest and fastest-growing EV charging networks, Connected Kerb. The acquisition allows existing and new customers to benefit from a larger combined network, and accelerates the benefits of the energy transition for EV drivers, their communities and the planet.”
