BYD reveals sub-£30k EV for Europe, the ATTO 2

  • Already on sale under a different name in China and several South American countries, BYD has announced the imminent arrival of the BYD ATTO 2 to Europe, which will become the smallest electric SUV sold by the manufacturer in the market.
  • The car was revealed to the public at this month’s Brussels Motor Show.
  • A smaller size than its existing electric ATTO 3 SUV, this new model will be more urban focussed and have a more accessible starting price.

BYD ATTO 2 heading to Europe

The ATTO 2 will be offered in two battery sizes – the most affordable being a 45.1 kWh unit, offering a rated range of 193 miles – on par with budget competitors like the Vauxhall/Opel Frontera and Citroen e-C3. After launch, a ‘long-range’ model with a larger battery unit will also be offered. Standard equipment for the ATTO 2 is also yet to be confirmed, but considering the generous offering on other BYDs sold in Europe, expect a wide range of technology and convenience to come at no extra cost.

BYD have confirmed that European sales of the ATTO 2 will start next month, although there’s no official word on pricing yet. In its home territory of China however, where the same model is sold as the BYD Yuan UP, pricing starts well below the equivalent £15,000 ($17,430). Judging by the ATTO 2’s size, power, and range, it’ll be a contender against budget electric SUVs such as the Vauxhall Frontera Electric, which starts at £23,495 – so expect the ATTO 2 to start well below £30,000 / €35,000.

BYD Executive Vice President, Stella Li, commented:

“We’re excited to start 2025 with another important model for our plans in Europe. The B-segment SUV class is incredibly popular here, and with the ATTO 2, we have an agile and versatile offering that will appeal to that large potential customer base. It takes all of BYD’s strengths in batteries, electric motors and Cell-to-Body construction and combines them in a compact package that brings new intelligent technologies to the urban SUV class.”
