Zest opens ultra-rapid EV charging hub in Bolton

Zest has launched a new ultra-rapid EV charging facility in Bolton, making it easier for local drivers to switch to electric vehicles. The site, located on St George’s Road near the ring road, features 12 charging bays with speeds of up to 160kW.

Robin Heap, CEO at Zest, said:

“To help people migrate to electric vehicles, charging infrastructure should be convenient, abundant and integrated into their everyday lives. Our new ultra-rapid charging facility in Bolton regenerates a previously underused site and creates a valuable local amenity for many years to come.”

The facility replaces a previously closed council car park. It is part of Zest’s nationwide effort to expand public EV charging, especially in areas with limited off-street parking. The company focuses on repurposing underused land to create valuable local amenities.

Residents and businesses have welcomed the new site. According to the government’s ‘Electric vehicle public charging infrastructure statistics’, regional rollouts across the UK vary greatly. This variation is detrimental to overall adoption figures, as some areas are falling behind others.

Councillor Richard Silvester, Executive Cabinet Member for Climate Change & Environment, at Bolton Council, said:

“Expanding EV infrastructure is essential for cutting transport emissions and enhancing air quality. Bolton Council’s climate change strategy, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030, is strengthened by initiatives like this, and by providing more accessible EV options, we’re helping create a cleaner, greener Bolton.”

Zest’s new facility is set to make a lasting impact. It provides a cleaner, greener alternative for Bolton’s growing number of electric vehicle drivers. Furthermore, it helps to increase the spread of infrastructure in the north, as unequal installation rates is becoming a major adoption barrier.
