BMW continues its march to electric with a new EV 3 Series coming next year

BMW has already introduced several electric models, including the i4, iX, and i7. Now, it’s adding a fully electric 3 Series to its lineup in 2026. This marks another major step in BMW’s shift toward widespread electrification.
More EVs, more choice, more competition
The electric 3 Series will be built on BMW’s new Gen6 platform, designed for greater efficiency, longer range, and lower costs. It will compete directly with the Tesla Model 3 and upcoming Mercedes CLA. BMW hasn’t confirmed range figures yet, but rivals are aiming for up to 440 miles per charge.
BMW is also pushing charging technology forward. The new 3 Series will use an 800V system, making it one of the fastest-charging EVs on the market. This aligns with BMW’s goal of making its electric models more practical and convenient for everyday use.

A growing electric portfolio
BMW’s Neue Klasse concept heavily influences the 3 Series’ design. It will feature modern styling, new grille-mounted sensors, and a high-tech interior. The cabin ditches physical buttons in favor of a touchscreen and haptic controls.
But the 3 Series is just one piece of the puzzle. A Touring estate model will follow, and a fully electric M3 could also be in the works. BMW’s EV range is growing fast, with electric alternatives now available for nearly every major model in its lineup. As BMW expands its EV portfolio, its electric lineup is becoming just as diverse and dynamic as its traditional petrol and diesel offerings.
