Bentley’s first EV, the Torcal, is around the corner

Bentley teases its first electric vehicle ahead of September reveal

Bentley has announced the model name of what will be the first fully-electric car from the brand: The Bentley Torcal. Set to only be offered in fully-electric form, it’ll become the fourth model in Bentley’s current lineup, existing alongside the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga. The name ‘Torcal’ also references the model’s electric foundations, derived from the latin word ‘torquere’, highlighting the effortless power and acceleration this new car will provide with its EV powertrain.

Alongside the model name reveal, Bentley has also revealed a teaser shot of the Torcal, giving us a slight glimpse of what this new EV will look like ahead of its full reveal, which will take place in London this September.

Details on the Bentley Torcal are still light, though the teaser photo suggests the Torcal will adopt an SUV shape. As part of the Volkswagen Group, rumours are that the Torcal will share the same platform as the fully-electric Porsche Cayenne SUV. If that’s the case, the Torcal could offer a range of 400 miles, along with power figures as high as 1,140 horsepower.

Bentley joins a growing number of high-end, luxury car manufacturers who have recently revealed their first ventures into battery-electric vehicles, such as the Ferrari Luce and the Jaguar Type 00.

Bentley Chairman and CEO, Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, commented:

“For 107 years Bentleys have been the most incredibly complete cars – effortless performance, outstanding comfort, exquisite British handcraftsmanship using the best natural materials and a soundtrack with soul. Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters, and may just be the most considered car in our history.”
