bp pulse prepare to propel Leeds’ EV infrastructure with New Wortley charging hub
Leeds is gearing up for a groundbreaking transformation with a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub in New Wortley. Developed by bp pulse, this ambitious project is set to breathe new life into a former gas holder site. The site will be converted into a cutting-edge haven for EV enthusiasts.
The site will receive 28 sleek, covered ultra-fast charging bays. These cutting-edge chargers promise to power up your EV in just 30 minutes. As with most charging hubs, the chargers themselves won’t be all that’s there. The site will feature modern retail and food units so you can fill 30 minutes while your EV ‘fills up’.

Johnny Froggatt, bp’s charging hubs’ Project Delivery Lead, said:
“As a former apprentice at the gas works site, I’m excited to be leading its re-development as the city continues to evolve. This proposed scheme demonstrates bp’s ability to turn plans into action. Projects like this will help bp to our global aim of 100,000 charge points installed this decade.”
But it’s not just about recharging vehicles; it’s about powering up the local job market. The construction phase is expected to generate numerous job opportunities. Beyond that, a subsequent 29 full-time and indirect positions once the hub is operational.
Ryan Barrett, Planner at the Leeds office of Lichfields, said:
“We hope the public consultation will reveal support from local people and stakeholders for the development, which will bring a disused site back into use while creating a much-needed facility and jobs.
The scheme is also set within a well-connected landscaped site, complete with all the amenities and functionality demanded by drivers requiring ‘ultra-fast’ charging hubs.”
These hubs are becoming increasingly prominent across the country. As charging hubs become the new petrol forecourts, they’ll become essential to our emobility transition, and to our way of life.
