Be.EV makes £700k investment to bring ultra-rapid EV charging to Altrincham

  • UK charge point operator, Be.EV, has invested over £700,000 into a new ultra-rapid EV charging hub, opening at the Atlantic Street Retail Park in Altrincham, Greater Manchester.
  • Partnering with Watkin Property Ventures Investment, eight bays are being installed at the retail park.
  • The site is projected to save 43,000kg worth of CO2 in 2025, whilst helping to clean up local air by encouraging EV usage and adoption.

Be.EV’s network expansion continues with new Altrincham site

The new Be.EV charging site is set to go live next week, consisting of eight ultra-rapid charging bays, with each offering up to 150kW worth of charging power.

Located just off the major A56 road, the chargers will come in handy not just for EV customers on the site, but also the 34,000-plus vehicles that pass by the site every day (with an increasing amount of that traffic becoming electric, as the UK’s electric car parc grows).

With this installation, Be.EV is hoping to prove to more retailers and retail parks that EV chargers are a worthwhile investment. With EV drivers spending a combined 800,000 hours worth of dwelling time at charge points every month, this has a direct positive impact on foot traffic of neighbouring retail facilities – with recent research suggesting that spending increases by 5% at shops with nearby EV chargers.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, commented:

“It’s surprising that more retailers haven’t taken advantage of EV charging. Retailers don’t pay anything to install them, can get an extra revenue source from taking a portion of the charging profits and direct EV drivers towards their stores.

We’re well-versed in serving retail parks, and we’re happy that Watkin Property Venture Investments have recognised that this is the investment that will future-proof Atlantic Street Retail Park. It’s perfectly located to serve thousands of EVs that drive past daily, a number that will only grow as the EV transition continues to gather steam.”

Be.EV’s new installation comes just days after the UK reached a significant milestone in the route to wider EV adoption — after new data shows that the UK now has over 100,000 public EV chargers, increasing confidence for both current EV drivers and would-be EV owners. Be.EV is working towards its own expansion goal of 1,600 charge points nationwide, by the end of 2025.
