For electric car drivers who rely heavily on the public charging network, UK CPO Be.EV has launched an updated range of charging passes, and it could allow drivers to make significant savings over the average UK public charging price – provided you make full use of the allowance.
Be.EV launches new allowance-based charging price schemes
The updated subscription schemes for Be.EV exist at three levels. The most affordable is its updated ‘Flexi Pass’, which for a monthly price of £13.99, brings the charging price at any time on a Be.EV charger to 39p per kWh. Typical non-member pricing for Be.EV’s ultra-rapid chargers sits anywhere between 59p and 89p per kWh, in comparison.
On top of this entry-level subscription, Be.EV has also introduced two allowance-based subscriptions. The first is the ‘Go Pass’, which will cost you £49 per month – in return, giving you 120kWh worth of charging credit. For even heavier users, it’s now also offering the ‘Go Further Pass’, which gives you 250kWh of monthly charging credit, around 800 miles of driving for a typical EV, for a monthly fee of £89 per month. For both plans, any charging beyond the allowances will be charged at 49p per kWh. If you make full use of the monthly 250kWh allowance in the latter scheme, you’ll essentially be paying 35.6p per kWh, which for public charging, particularly ultra-rapid units, is very low. The average pay-as-you-go price for public charging in the UK currently stands at 83p per kWh.
Of course, it’s worth noting that these subscriptions will only work on Be.EV chargers, and not other CPOs in the UK. But if Be.EV’s current locations work for your journeys, it’s an interesting scheme that could save high-mileage EV drivers, or those unable to charge up at home, considerable money.
