ARENA continues the electric rollout across Australia with $2.4 Million for 250 new EV chargers across three states

  • ARENA has invested $2.4 million to help EVX Australia install 250 public EV chargers across three states.
  • The chargers will be mounted on existing power poles, providing easier access to charging in urban areas.
  • The project uses 100% renewable energy and partners with key energy providers to improve user experience.

ARENA and EVX drive accessible EV charging across key states in Australia

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has committed $2.4 million in funding to EVX Australia to install 250 public electric vehicle (EV) chargers across Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia. These chargers will be placed in over 60 local government areas, offering a convenient and accessible option for EV owners.

Kerbside charging is essential to boosting EV adoption in Australia. By using existing power poles in urban and residential areas, this new infrastructure will make charging more accessible. It’s a solution that cities around the world have already adopted with great success.

ARENA CEO Darren Miller, celebrated the funding:

“Not all electric vehicle owners have the ability to charge their vehicle at home or at work, which is why we’re excited to partner with EVX on this rollout that utilises kerbside charging poles, providing a great opportunity to pair with EV charging.

While sales of EVs are increasing, the expansion of public charging is vital in catering for future demand right across Australia.”

The chargers, designed and manufactured by EVX, will run on 100% renewable energy.

EVX CEO, Andrew Forster, added:

“We are so excited that this partnership with ARENA is off the ground. The project will make EV charging more accessible for both residents and visitors to these regions, whilst also crucially allowing us to further test, adapt and develop the way we rollout this community charging infrastructure into the future.”

The project also involves partnerships with major energy providers, including Ausgrid and Essential Energy. In addition, EVX will collaborate with the Wevolt app to improve the charging experience for users.

The development comes just days after the celebrated completion of Western Australia’s EV Network. With multiple, regionalised investments and developments, Australia is becoming an interconnected nation with electric power turning the wheels.
