Aqua superPower, electric maritime specialists, expand charging services to commercial ports

Aqua superPower, a leading marine charging operator, is supporting commercial ports in its pursuit of net-zero emissions. This targeted expansion will address the specific needs of critical maritime sectors. These include ferry services, patrol, port services, and workboats.

The company’s recent success with UK government funding for the Zero Emissions Network of Workboats (ZENOW) is a significant milestone. Aqua secured a substantial £4.1 million grant from the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) and Innovate UK. Additionally, Aqua has obtained further funding to cater to the distinctive requirements of commercial ports and harbours.

Alex Bamberg, CEO of Aqua superPower stated:

“As we embark on this strategic expansion into commercial ports, we are proud to be at the forefront of the maritime industry’s shift towards a sustainable future.

By recognising battery electric vessels as a pivotal solution, Aqua superPower is committed to supporting commercial operations on their journey to achieving net-zero emissions. The global maritime sector is at a turning point, and Aqua superPower is well-positioned to address the pressing need for sustainable solutions. Our dedication to providing cost-free charging infrastructure to commercial ports aligns with our mission to propel the adoption of battery electric vessels forward, contributing significantly to global decarbonisation goals.”

Electric workboats will carve out a noteworthy 11.8% share of the global market by 2032. The industry is addressing emissions from heavy fuel oil combustion in diesel engines. Globally, these form a substantial contributor to air and water pollution. Recognising the pressing need for sustainable solutions, Aqua is positioning itself to meet both national and international maritime decarbonisation goals.

Aqua underscores its commitment by providing cost-free charging infrastructure to commercial ports. This aligns with the company’s dedication to supporting commercial operations on their journey to achieving equitable net-zero emissions.

Jean Luc Desmars, LHD Président, added:

“LHD is developing and financing the first electric mooring boat for commercial port application, to be launched in Q4-24. We have partnered with Aqua Superpower on the fast-charging solution which will allow our vessel to recharge in less than one hour on a 400kW DC charger”

Collaboration plays a pivotal role in this industry transformation, with Aqua partnering with LHD to develop the first electric mooring boat for commercial port applications. The fast-charging solution, set to launch in Q4-24, promises rapid recharging in less than an hour on a 400kW DC charger.

Aqua’s expansion aligns with the broader global trend towards environmentally conscious practices in the maritime industry. This is an incredibly positive step towards total decarbonisation. With Aqua’s moves into the commercial shipping sector, could the company claim the zero-emissions seas?
