Amazon extends its UK micromobility network with a new hub in Norfolk

Norwich is getting green deliveries on two wheels as Amazon launches a micro-mobility hub to decarbonise the region. The new hub, located at Amazon’s delivery station in Norfolk, features a new fleet of ecargo bikes. These bikes will handle thousands of deliveries each week.

This initiative is part of a £300 million investment to electrify Amazon’s UK transportation network. The funding is to propel the company towards its overall goal to hit net-zero by 2040.

Norwich is now among more than 40 cities across the UK and Europe where Amazon has established similar micromobility hubs. These hubs facilitate ebikes deliveries and on-foot couriers, any method from depot to door without diesel.

Local courier company Danzen Logistics is partnering with Amazon for this rollout.

Dan Zenchuk, the owner, welcomed the new bikes:

“We are delighted to work with Amazon to bring this fleet of electric cargo bikes to Norwich. We think the electric cargo bikes are going to be a big hit with customers, while also supporting Amazon’s sustainability commitments, and providing additional delivery rider opportunities in the area.”

Amazon’s sustainability drive extends beyond the new bikes. The company operates over 1,000 electric delivery vans and nine fully electric HGVs in the UK and Ireland.

In addition, Amazon has matched all its electricity consumption with renewable energy as of 2023. The company supports this with significant investments in solar and wind energy projects, including major offshore wind farms.

It’s encouraging to see a major global company taking decarbonisation seriously. Emobility is central to Amazon’s future. As the world’s largest delivery service, it must either electrify or fall behind. Micromobility hubs like this new one in Norfolk are massive pillars in their efforts.
