Airbnb Partners with ChargePoint to Boost Home EV Charger Installation
Airbnb and ChargePoint have joined forces to support hosts in the United States in meeting the increasing demand for EV charging infrastructure. According to Airbnb, searches utilising its EV charger filter surged by over 80% from 2022 to 2023, indicating a significant uptick in interest and need.
Airbnb and ChargePoint are offering discounts to US hosts on home EV chargers and installation services. This includes up to a 36% discount on a range of ChargePoint home EV charger models starting at $399, as well as a $100 discount on installation when purchased through ChargePoint’s website.
Airbnb is also offering an additional $200 discount to the first 1,000 hosts who purchase an EV charger through ChargePoint.
Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, said;
“Ensuring all drivers are able to charge when and where they need to remains our top priority. Together with Airbnb, we are removing barriers to broader adoption of residential charging solutions for Airbnb hosts and enabling a frictionless charging experience for their guests.”
According to Airbnb’s internal data, listings that offer a home EV charger are booked for more nights and generate higher average income compared to listings without one. In 2023, the most popular states for searches for home EV charger availability were California, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Washington, and North Carolina.
The homestay giant’s data also mirrors broader US EV market trends. From 2022 to 2023, EV sales surged by 60% year-over-year. California, Florida, Texas, and Washington led in EV registrations.
Airbnb’s partnership with ChargePoint marks a significant step toward expanding EV infrastructure across the United States, responding directly to the growing interest and demand for EV charging among hosts and guests alike.
