Einride to acquire EV charging platform Flipturn in $38.4 million deal

Einride to acquires Flipturn in an all-stock deal to build North America's largest heavy-duty charging network.

Transportation firm Einride has agreed to acquire Flipturn, a charging and energy management software provider, in an deal which will help create North America’s largest EV charging ecosystem for heavy-duty vehicles. The acquisition, subject to regulatory approval, will add Flipturn’s EV charging management layer to Einride’s existing freight technology platform.

The deal builds on Einride’s existing Saga AI platform, which helps maximise utilisation of fleet vehicles, reduce energy consumption, and ensure maximum operational performance. The integration of Flipturn’s technology is expected to extend Einride’s capability in charging infrastructure, with AI-powered features carried over such as charging time prediction, power delivery management, and adaptation on a per-vehicle basis depending on battery health and vehicle usage. Flipturn’s technology will also handle driver access, payments and on-site controller orchestration, as well as helping fleets take advantage of off-peak tariffs.

The deal adds 250MW of charging capacity to Einride’s existing portfolio, more than doubling the energy it currently manages. Einride already works with a number of major trucking fleets, including Amazon, and this acquisition gives it further room to grow that side of the business.

Roozbeh Charli, Chief Executive Officer at Einride, commented:

“This acquisition is a decisive step in our U.S. scaling strategy. Flipturn will further strengthen Einride’s software layer for electric heavy-duty freight optimisation and improve our customer offering by adding more cost efficient, more reliable, and accessible charging to our customers. With Flipturn, Einride is expected to become the first company in the industry with a fully vertically integrated electric freight technology stack.”

Katie Siegel, Co-Founder and CEO at Flipturn, added:

“Einride has spent a decade at the forefront of autonomous and electric freight, and that technical depth is what drew us to them. Our customers will keep the same team and platform they rely on today, with Einride’s technology and scale behind us to deliver an even better charging experience.”
