  • Colwood is Vancouver Island’s first city to use a RIZON all-electric truck for municipal operations.
  • RIZON began Canadian deliveries in February, expanding across B.C. and Quebec with multiple truck configurations.
  • RIZON trucks feature safety tech, cold-weather readiness, and qualify for up to $150,000 in incentives.

Colwood sets the pace of electrification on Vancouver Island with new all-electric RIZON dump truck

The City of Colwood has taken a significant step toward cleaner transportation. It is the first municipality on Vancouver Island to add a RIZON all-electric truck to its fleet. The truck, an e16M model, will help to slash the city’s emissions.

The medium-duty Class 4 truck comes with a dump body and will be used in Colwood’s municipal wellness and public works departments. The city aims to cut down its carbon footprint while keeping daily services running smoothly.

Andreas Deuschle, Global Head of RIZON Truck, said:

“Colwood’s adoption of a RIZON truck is a great example of how local governments can lead the charge toward zero-emission transportation,” said Andreas Deuschle, Global Head of RIZON Truck. “We are proud to support municipalities like Colwood as they take real action to build healthier, more sustainable communities through innovative fleet choices.”

Canada has set a goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. To support this, the government offers financial incentives for medium and heavy-duty electric vehicles. RIZON trucks qualify for about $75,000 ixn federal incentives. In British Columbia, they can receive up to $75,000 more in provincial support. These programs encourage cities and companies to switch to electric fleets.

RIZON Truck Canada, based in Surrey, BC, distributes these vehicles. The company is part of Velocity Vehicle Group, one of North America’s largest truck dealers. RIZON is Daimler Truck’s newest brand, focused on zero-emission trucks. Their vehicles weigh between 15,995 and 18,850 pounds. They can travel 177 km or more on a single charge, depending on the battery size.

The trucks can charge in two ways: fast DC charging or slower, less costly Level 2 AC charging. This flexibility makes it easier for cities like Colwood to adopt electric fleets.

Colwood’s move shows how electric trucks can meet city needs and support environmental goals.

Earlier this year, RIZON Canada delivered its first all-electric dump truck, the e18L, to Villamar Construction in Victoria, British Columbia. This marked the beginning of RIZON’s expansion in Canada, with plans to deliver 18 more trucks across British Columbia and Quebec in various configurations, including dry boxes and service bodies.

RIZON trucks are equipped with advanced safety features like Active Brake Assist and Side Guard Assist. They are also designed to operate efficiently in cold weather, featuring battery preconditioning and heated driver amenities.

With nine dealer locations across Canada, RIZON is expanding its presence and making electric trucks a reality on Canadian roads.

Colwood’s adoption of the RIZON e16M truck underscores the city’s commitment to sustainability and positions it as a leader in the transition to zero-emission municipal fleets.
