IONITY gains €450 million green loan to boost European ultra-rapid EV charging infrastructure

IONITY, Europe’s leading ultra-fast EV charging provider, has secured a record-breaking €450 million in green loan facilities, with an option to extend up to €600 million. This marks the largest loan in the European EV charging sector to date. The financing, backed by nine major commercial banks including BNP Paribas and ABN AMRO, underscores strong market confidence in IONITY’s vision for sustainable mobility.

The funds will accelerate the expansion of IONITY’s high-power charging network across Europe. Currently operating over 5,000 charging points, the company aims to more than double this number to approximately 13,000 by 2030, spanning over 1,300 locations. The focus will be on enhancing charging infrastructure along highways and in urban hubs to support the growing demand for EVs.

IONITY’s chargers, capable of delivering up to 400 kW, enable EVs to gain up to 300 kilometers of range in just 10 to 15 minutes. The company is also integrating cutting-edge technology, such as the Alpitronic HYC1000 system, which can deliver up to 600 kW, catering to next-generation EVs and 800V vehicle architectures.

The company has been on a rapid expansion drive

In the UK, IONITY recently opened its largest ultra-rapid charging hub at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dartford Bridge, located just off the M25 at Junction 1a. The site features 24 high-powered 350 kW chargers and marks the beginning of a partnership with Henderson Park to install a total of 104 chargers across six DoubleTree locations, including sites in Newbury North, Coventry, Bristol North, Edinburgh Airport, and Glasgow Strathclyde.

All IONITY charging stations are 100% renewable. The company’s commitment to sustainability and customer convenience is further demonstrated through partnerships with hospitality brands like Starbucks and Circle K, enhancing the charging experience for users.

As the European Union targets 30 million EVs on the road by 2030, IONITY’s significant investment positions it as a key player in supporting the continent’s transition to emobility.
