£932k of EV charging funding secured by London’s Islington Council

London's Islington Council set to receive at least 840 new EV chargers through fresh funding.
  • Islington Council, in the UK’s capital, London, has secured £932,500 worth of LEVI funding to roll out more public EV charging infrastructure across the borough.
  • The council has already delivered over 600 charge points across the borough, with this new funding set to bring an additional 840 chargers to the area ahead of 2030.
  • With a low level of off-street parking in Islington, there will be a significant focus on on-street EV charging through lamppost-mounted solutions.

More EV charging infrastructure coming to the London Borough of Islington

The new funding has been secured from the Department for Transport, and will run between 2026 and 2030. The succesful funding attempt was achieved in partnership with neighbouring Camden Council, who will also be receiving its own share of government funding to install charging infrastructure.

Islington Council estimates that this £932,500 investment will create at least 840 new chargers across the borough by 2030. This will include 200 ‘fast’ charge points, and 600 lamppost charge points, highlighting the need for on-street charging in ultra urban areas such as London. Overall, this works towards the council’s goal to have over 1,400 on-street EV chargers online by 2030.

Islington joins a growing number of areas in the UK making significant strides in on-street charging infrastructure – particularly evident elsewhere in the capital, with London councils such as Barnet and Harrow also seeing significant installations.

Councillor Una O’Halloran, Leader of Islington Council, commented:

“Securing this funding is a fantastic step forward for Islington in making it happen for local people. It means more people will have the opportunity to make the switch to more environmentally friendly forms of transport and will make Islington a cleaner, healthier place for everyone.”
