The US Climate Mayors come pledge to electrify 50 of city fleets by 2030
Nearly 350 US mayors have committed to a major acceleration of the electric vehicle (EV) transition. The announcement was timed with the 10-year anniversary of the Climate Mayors network and the 2nd anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act.

What have they pledged?
They aim to electrify at least 50% of their city fleets by 2030. They also plan to increase the number of public EV chargers by 500% by 2035. The focus will be on ensuring that 40% of these chargers serve disadvantaged communities.
This commitment aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration’s target of having 50% of new vehicle sales be electric by 2030. If successful, the initiative will cut costs for taxpayers, improve air quality, and create new green jobs.
US Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg, commented:

“As a proud former mayor, I have seen the effectiveness of local leaders coming together on a global issue like climate change – and today is a powerful example of that impact. This announcement by nearly 350 mayors to electrify at least 50% of their fleet and increase the number of EV chargers by 500% will deliver a range of benefits: cost savings for residents, cleaner air, and a lot of good jobs. The Biden-Harris Administration is proud to support these mayors in ensuring that the EV revolution plays out on efficient, affordable, and equitable terms for American drivers and American workers.”
To support the transition, Climate Mayors will collaborate with manufacturers and financing institutions and seek federal funding. This effort builds on earlier initiatives, including a 2017 plan to electrify 112,000 vehicles across 30 cities and the 2019 launch of the EV Pooled Purchasing Collaborative.
This commitment has the power to transform the US forever, bringing quiet, green cities and slashing pollution, while making the emobility accessible and practical for millions.
