2024 GMC Sierra EV: Power, Range, and CrabWalk Take Center Stage

GMC dropped the latest specs for its 2024 Sierra EV electric pickup truck this week, set to hit showrooms across the U.S. this summer.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 leads the charge as the first model to hit the streets, boasting exclusive features. But, expect shared specs across other variants as they roll out later.

No surprises here – the Sierra EV shares many specs with its GMC cousin, the Chevrolet Silverado EV. Both hit the market this summer, boasting limited-edition models: Silverado EV First-Edition RST and Sierra EV Denali Edition 1.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition storms in with a whopping 754 hp, thanks to its dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup in Max Power mode.

Towing capacity now stands at 10,000 pounds, while payload has been boosted to 1,450 pounds – up by 500 pounds and 150 pounds, respectively. Plus, with the handy reconfigurable mid-gate, split-folding rear seats, and adaptive tailgate, it’ll feature a bed length of almost 11 feet, far surpassing the standard 5’11” bed.

The maximum range estimate now sits at an impressive 440 miles, a 40-mile increase from earlier announcements. While EPA-rated figures are still pending, GMC remains tight-lipped about battery specifics, though it’s rumoured to pack around 200 kWh.

The 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition comes equipped with air suspension, allowing for a two-inch adjustment in height. Plus, it’s got rear-wheel steering, giving you access to the innovative CrabWalk mode, a signature feature from GMC’s Hummer EV lineup. This mode enables diagonal movement, while also reducing the truck’s turning circle for enhanced manoeuvrability, especially in tight spots.

Inside the Sierra EV, expect a departure from the typical GMC setup. Instead, you’ll find a unique dashboard layout with an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a 16.8-inch portrait-style touchscreen, complete with a volume knob and seven hard toggles below. Premium features like a head-up display, glass roof, and Super Cruise automated driver-assist are all part of the package.

The first edition kicks off at $98,995, with the destination charge included. That’s a slight drop from the previously announced starting price of $108,695.

2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 promises a thrilling combination of power, innovation, and luxury at a more accessible price point. With production taking place at GM’s Factory Zero plant, alongside the Hummer EV and Silverado EV, quality and performance are assured. Looking ahead, production expansion in 2025 to GM’s Orion Assembly plant in Orion Township, Michigan, signifies a bright future for electric vehicle enthusiasts, as GMC continues to push boundaries and redefine the driving experience.
