- World EV Day™ (9th September) has now come to a close across the world, following a day of activations, announcements, and marketing that helps to present the benefits of electric vehicles to a mainstream global audience.
- Bringing together, businesses, governments, and individuals, this year’s day focused on the ‘Better’ manifesto, making it clear that EVs are simply better than their ICE counterparts.
- Post-World EV Day™, it’s important that positive EV messaging continues, ensuring that the foot isn’t taken off the adoption pedal.
2025’s World EV Day™ engages an audience on a global scale
Let’s explore a list of just a few of the many activations, announcements, and more that took place across the world on World EV Day™, which, along with the official World EV Day™ partners, have helped to drive the EV industry forward further this year.
Bringing together EV communications leaders
Green.TV Media and World EV Day™ launched the EV Comms Leadership Forum, creating a group that will unite communications leaders across the EV sector. Together, the group will work on actionable outcomes that advance the EV industry, such as the commissioning of original research, peer-to-peer research, and more. The group will also ensure that campaigns to drive EV engagement take place right across the calendar year, and not just on World EV Day™.
Free charging offers
World EV Day™ saw a number of free public charging offers take place around the globe, once again promoting how much drivers could save by switching to an EV.
The UK saw a wide range of free public charging offers for the day. This included an offer by RAW Charging to give zero-cost charging at hundreds of its locations, including Legoland, Alton Towers, as well as multiple National Trust sites, pubs, hotels, and more. The UK city of Oxford also saw various free charging offers, thanks to CPOs Fastned and EZ-Charge.
In the Philippines, VinFast teamed up with EV charging provider V-GREEN to launch an ambitious initiative. Unlimited free charging will be offered to Vinfast drivers at V-GREEN sites for a two-and-a-half year period, which should encourage more to make the switch to EV from a cost perspective. This significant investment could pay off for Vinfast in the long-term, in a country where EV adoption is surging.
Showcasing EVs to the public
Smart Charge, which exists as UK supermarket Sainsbury’s in-house CPO, ran a public EV showcase across five of its locations, displaying EVs to a mainstream audience. With Smart Charge giving the ability for drivers to charge up whilst carrying out their weekly shop, it once again shows how easily an electric car can be integrated into daily life.
New charging locations
Indian automotive giant Tata marked World EV Day™ by opening its largest TATA.ev MegaCharger hub yet. Located near Terminal 2 of Mumbai’s international airport, the new hub allows up to 16 EVs to charge at once, with charging speeds of up to 120kW.
New Research
Gilbarco-Veeder Root, a Vontier company, commissioned a survey for the day, surveying 5,500 drivers of BEVs and hybrids across Europe and the United States on the topic of public charging. The results show that charging convenience is the critical factor, uncovering new insights that should help the public charging sector cater even further to customer needs in the future.
Electric fleet expansions
Australian delivery firm ANC marked the day by committing to further accelerate the transition to fully-electric propulsion within its last-mile delivery fleet. So far, 12.5% of ANC’s total fleet is electric, with the company now targeting a figure of 30% by 2028.
Next year, World EV Day™ will also return on the 9th of September, helping to continue positive EV messaging as many countries get one year closer to their various EV mandates.
