Sainsbury’s Smart Charge brings EVs closer to the public on World EV Day™
Five Sainsbury’s sites, which already have public charging sites operated by Smart Charge, will be taking part in the World EV Day™ offer. This includes its Bamber Bridge, Warren Heath, Coreys Mill, Richmond, and Fosse Park Superstores.
At these sites, a selection of the latest electric cars from manufacturers such as Nissan, MINI, and Renault will be on display, with experts on hand to answer questions. At some sites, test drives of selected EVs will also be on offer, allowing the public to get behind the wheel of an EV. For some, this could be their first time driving an electric vehicle, highlighting a pivotal moment in the customer journey towards buying an EV for the first time.
The events will also help bring a wider consumer awareness to World EV Day™ and highlight to Sainsbury’s customers that the UK’s public charging network is in a stronger place than ever. With Smart Charge locations now present at 79 Sainsbury’s locations and growing, it’s clear that an EV can fit anyone’s lifestyle, with the opportunity to combine an ultra-rapid charging session with their weekly shop now becoming a clear reality thanks to Smart Charge.
The Smart Charge event comes at a crucial time for the UK’s EV transition. Recent studies make it clear that consumer confidence in electric vehicles is on the up, and that’s reflected by record levels of EV market share. However, with the country’s ZEV mandate on new cars now less than five years away, the next few years will be crucial for driving the early mainstream to EV ownership, with World EV Day™-related activations such as Smart Charge’s playing a key role.
Emma Williams, Director of Customer & Commercial at Smart Charge, commented:
“We’re not just installing chargers – we’re creating experiences. By integrating EVs into the daily lives of shoppers, we’re helping people see how seamlessly electric vehicles can fit into their routines.”
