Say hello to the Renault Twingo Electric
Currently, the compact ‘A segment’ accounts for just 5% of the European car market (EV and ICE included). However, with the reveal of this new model Renault clearly believes there is an untapped apetite for smaller, more affordable vehicles, with Renault noting that ‘motorists across Europe are still looking for compact, affordable vehicles, designed for urban living or for use as a second car’.
Exact pricing is yet to be confirmed, but Renault state that the electric Twingo will start at under £20,000 or €20,000 across Europe – and that’s before any relevant ‘government subsidies’ are applied. This is set to be a seriously affordable EV, rivalling the likes of the Leapmotor T03, and slotting in below its more expensive Renault 4 and Renault 5 EV models.
The 27.5 kWh LFP battery in the new Twingo will be good for a WLTP range of 163 miles, and will be paired with a lightweight 82 horsepower electric motor. Thanks to the Twingo’s light 1,200kg kerb weight, this will still allow for a 0-31mph time of 3.85 seconds – making it perfect for city driving. The new model will also support full one-pedal functionality, allowing drivers to come to a complete stop in traffic without ever touching the brake pedal. The Twingo will also support bidirectional charging, allowing compatibility with vehicle-to-grid and vehicle-to-load functions.

The Renault Twingo Electric will be built in Slovenia, with a launch date set for 2027.
Paula Fabregat-Andreu, Design Project Director at Ampere, commented on the new Twingo’s design:
“Our main aim in designing this modern-day Twingo was to recapture the bold spirit of the first generation, a compact one-box silhouette, spacious and modular inside with the playful, mischievous character that defined the first generation. Twingo E-Tech electric is bright and cheerful, with curvy lines and huge, impish eyes that give it a vibrant personality and a unique character in the automotive landscape. More than just a vehicle, it’s a true companion. A champion of everyday life, able to turn every journey into a moment of fun.”
