Maserati, who are most famously known for their internal combustion engine vehicles, have committed to making all their models electric by 2025. This includes both hybrids and dedicated battery-electric cars. This news comes just four months after the luxury Italian car brand announced its first all-electric car, the MC12.
Davide Grasso, Maserati’s chief operating officer (COO), spoke of the company’s commitment to going electric during an online event organised by the Italian newspaper Milano Finanza. The first electric car the brand will launch will be the Maserati Grecale hybrid. This will be available in 2021 with an all-electric version coming in 2022. Grasso went on to say that the new Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio models will be electrified too.
The news doesn’t come as a complete shock with Maserati’s parent company, Fiat Chrysler Group, announcing last year that it would be investing £4.5 billion ($6 billion/€5 billion) into electric and hybrid models. This news comes as the brand celebrates its 106th birthday after Alfieri Maserati joined forces with his brothers Ettore and Ernesto to establish “Alfieri Maserati” in the heart of Bologna. Maserati have marked the occasion by launching a video documenting the brand’s journey.
