BMW reveal prices and specs for their new iX3 electric car in the UK

BMW recently announced prices and specifications for their new iX3 electric car in the UK market. The new all-electric SUV from the German car manufacturer will be launched in the summer of 2021, and prices will start at £61,900 for the Premier Edition, while Premier Edition Pro prices will start from £64,900.

This new sporty looking SUV will feature BMW’s new fifth generation eDrive set-up which sees the motor, power electronics and transmission are all arranged together in a single housing. The use of a current-excited synchronous motor does away with the need for magnets. This design also eliminates the use of rare earth materials in the motor.

This new eDrive system found in the iX3 features an 80 kWh battery pack that delivers 286-horsepower to the rear wheels. This will take it from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 6.8 seconds and has a range of up to 285 miles. The iX3 set-up will also support a 150 kW DC fast-charger that can reach 80 percent of its charge in around 34 minutes.

The iX3 also has long-distance cruising abilities too. BMW say that by using a lighter, more energy dense battery it results in greater energy efficiency while on the move. This means that on longer motorway style trips, the range of the iX3 will hold up better than its heavier competitors. Overall it’s an impressive performance sheet for an SUV of this size, but you’ll have to wait until next summer to get hold of one.
