BMW UK has announced a pricing realignment for the BMW i3 and BMW i3s to ensure that customers can continue to benefit from the UK government’s Plug-In Car Grant (PiCG). This was recently reduced to £2,500 and is now only available on new electric vehicles costing less than £35,000.
On the road pricing before the grant for the BMW i3 120Ah now starts at £33,805 and £34,805 for the sporty BMW i3s120Ah. There have been no changes to the high levels of standard specification offered on either model.
The government grant offers consumers up to £2,500 off the retail price of vehicles that have CO2 emissions of less than 50g/km and can travel at least 70 miles (113km) without any tailpipe emissions and a retail price of £35,000 or less. The all-electric BMW i3 has a range of up to 190 miles (306km), while the BMW i3s offers up to 175 miles (282km).
BMW joins a growing number of brands that have adjusted prices to help encourage customers to drive electric. These include Citroen, Kia, Peugeot and Vauxhall. British carmaker MG has several electric cars that all come in under the price cap of £35,000, so to encourage customers to drive clean they offered the grant at the old value of £3,000 during March.
