Nissan announces new all-electric Leaf, Juke, and Micra models

  • Nissan’s EV transition has taken a significant step forward today, after the manufacturer announced three new fully-electric models set to debut over 2025 and 2026.
  • This includes a third generation of Nissan’s first EV, the Leaf, as well as the first fully-electric iterations of its existing Micra city car and Juke crossover marques.
  • The addition of new models will significantly increase Nissan’s market reach within the EV market.

More EVs coming from Nissan

The current second-generation Nissan Leaf was originally introduced in 2017, and has become particularly long in the tooth in recent years – with its battery range and technology offerings beaten by many similarly priced rivals, like the Volkswagen ID.3 and BYD Dolphin. Whilst full technical specifications for this third-generation Leaf are yet to be revealed, we do know it’ll be underpinned by the same modular CMF-EV platform that Nissan’s much newer Ariya EV uses, which the manufacturer says will help bring ‘significant range improvements’ over the previous generation Leaf. Much like previous Leafs, this model will be sold globally – with North American-bound models set to adopt the Tesla-led NACS charging connector.

Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK will also play a part in third-generation Leaf production, with the first examples expected to roll out of the factory later this year.

Also set to be fully-revealed in 2025 is the Micra EV, which will slot below the Leaf in terms of affordability. While little technical details are known yet, expect its stylish design to compete on price with EVs such as the Renault 5 E-Tech.

While not providing a photo just yet, Nissan also confirmed the arrival of an all-electric Nissan Juke in 2026. The current ICE-powered Juke crossover has been a strong seller across Europe for over a decade, and Nissan will be hoping to replicate that success with this EV iteration.

Leon Dorssers, Regional Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Nissan AMIEO, commented:

“The renewal of Nissan’s European line-up is the realisation of our bold plan to electrify our range in Europe. All the new models will share common Nissan DNA: striking design, technical innovation and intuitive technology – a combination of qualities which we are confident will attract new buyers to Nissan, as well as continuing to appeal to existing customers who already love how Nissan vehicles enrich their daily lives.”
