- Bringing in new levels of flexibility for electric truck and bus operations, MAN Truck & Bus is set to start offering a new charging cube solution, allowing fleet customers to charge their EVs at sites without needing an underground grid connection, such as at temporary locations, construction sites, or locations with potential grid constraints.
- The ‘Smart Charging Cube’, which is being offered in collaboration with AW Automotive, also has the potential to be connected to the mains, with a current of 32A to 630A.
- MAN’s new offering could open up the use case for electric HGVs and buses further.
MAN Truck & Bus introduces its Smart Charging Cube to customers
Comprising a battery storage system and relevant charging hardware into a single, semi-portable container, the battery can be specified in different capacities, ranging from 500kWh to 1,100kWh. This will allow MAN’s products to be charged entirely off-grid, but also enable charging functions such as peak shaving, dynamic power consumption and bidirectional charging. The battery will also allow the cube to function as a source of reliable energy for a external megawatt charging station, offering ultra-rapid charging speeds of up to 1,000kW.
Power generated on-site, such as through solar, can also be stored in the Smart Charging Cube, helping to make the charging process as sustainable as possible. Up to 4 charging points can be operated off the charging cube at any one time, offering a maximum charging capacity of 400kW.
MAN’s customers will have the option to either lease, rent, or purchase the Smart Charging Cube outright. For off-grid, temporary sites such as festivals and construction sites, the Smart Charging Cube could play a key role in enabling zero-emissions logistics.
