- Automaker-backed US EV charging network, IONNA, has introduced the IONNA Beacon – a flagship charging destination that hints at what the next generation of EV charging stations will look like.
- The amenity-filled site will help display how seamless and comfortable public charging can be.
- The first IONNA Beacon is set to open in Westminster, California, with construction already underway.
IONNA reveals its flagship EV charging site design
IONNA Beacon sites will have a number of key features that distinguish them from other public charging sites. Constant availability for arriving drivers will be key, with each site containing at least 20 charging bays, offering ultra-rapid charging speeds. On-site amenities will also include restrooms, an interior lounge space, retail opportunities, and pet stations, to name just a few. IONNA’s goal is to make its flagship charging stations feel ‘welcoming and human’. With more drivers considering making the switch, ensuring that charging infrastructure is accessible and welcoming is key.
IONNA is not the first CPO aiming to improve the quality and quantity of on-site facilities at charge points. We’ve also seen similar moves from UK CPO InstaVolt’s flagship Super Hub, whilst Porsche’s own exclusive charging lounges have gone to show just how luxurious EV charging can be.
IONNA is backed by a number of OEMs who are already heavily invested in the EV transition: BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, and Stellantis. With the launch of this new lifestyle-led charging hub, these OEMs are clearly keen to use IONNA to demonstrate to customers just how convenient and simple EV charging can be, helping to drive sales of their own respective electric models in return.
The CPO is making large strides when it comes to the rollout of its public charging network. Earlier this week, the firm announced that it is making a $250 million USD investment into California, helping to significantly boost the number of IONNA charge points contracted across the state.
