Fastned to create France’s first all-electric service area

Fastned will open France's first fully-electric service area in 2026, offering 400kW charging speeds to meet rising public charging demand.
  • European public EV charging provider, Fastned, has won a tender to ditch the petrol pumps and create the first service area dedicated entirely to electric vehicles.
  • Located in St Yvi, Brittany, the new site will be the first electric-only service area on France’s Route Nationale network.
  • The site is expected to open in 2026, carrying six ultra-rapid 400kW chargers – with one being made available for large electric trucks to use.

The new charging station, which doubles up as a service area, will be located on Route Nationale 165, a major road which currently sees over 28,000 vehicles passing along it each day – with a growing proportion of those vehicles being fully-electric models. Alongside the offer of 400kW EV charging for electric cars and electric trucks, the site will also contain a shop, restrooms, and a landscaped garden area. This upcoming French site adds to the 50 charging stations Fastned already operates across France, and also helps grow the 380-plus Fastned locations dotted across all of Europe.

With its location on such a busy national road, this new charging station will help complement rising rates of EV adoption in France. In 2024 alone, France saw over 291,000 new fully-electric vehicles registered, with BEV sales set to continue rising in the country ahead of the European Union’s 2035 ZEV mandate.

This incoming location also exists as the second example of Fastned’s ‘service area of the future’ blueprint. Earlier this year, the CPO unveiled a flagship location in Belgium, combining EV charging with similar conveniences such as a shop, play park, and more.

Michiel Langezaal, Co-Founder and CEO of Fastned, commented:

“I am extremely proud that Fastned has been chosen to build France’s first all-electric service area at St Yvi. France now becomes the second country to embark on the journey of zero-emissions service areas – a logical step in light of the phase out of the internal combustion engine and fossil fuels, and therefore petrol stations. Fastned has been powering electric drivers across France since 2021, accelerating the pace of transition with over 50 locations already open to French drivers. This tender win shows our ambition to bring the service area of the future to France, and further all over Europe, and to give every driver the best charging experience possible with 100% renewable energy.”
