Volkswagen, who launched their new ID.4 on September 23, couldn’t have asked for a better response to their first all-electric family size SUV. The ID.4 1st Edition, which is priced at $43,995 (before any grants) in the US, is now showing that it’s sold out on VW’s American website.
The German car manufacturer had reserved around 2,000 units for the US market. The popularity of the new ID.4 1st Edition, which combines style with both performance and family practicality, was bigger than expected and they’ve all been snapped up. According to a Tweet by Volkswagen USA they sold out of this model in under eight hours.
It’s not surprising with new ID.4 1st Edition being an impressive rear-wheel-drive electric car that uses a 77 kWh battery. This delivers 201bhp which offers 323 miles (520km) of range and drives it from 0-62mph (0-100kph) in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 100mph (161kph). Plus, it can be charged to around 200 miles (322km) of range in just 30 minutes using a 125kW fast charger.
It’s good to see such a response to the launch of a new electric vehicle, and it looks like discerning car buyers are past Volkswagen’s scandal of a few years ago. Besides, there are no worries with emissions here. While production of the ID.4 is currently only happening Volkswagen’s factory in Zwickau, Germany, the company will start producing this car in the Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2022.
