After producing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles for 100 years Lincoln are looking to an electric future. As the brand celebrates its centenary birthday, big change is ahead, and like many large automakers around the globe, is joining the revolution and moving towards a cleaner zero-emissions future.
Joy Falotico, Lincoln president, said: “We are at a defining moment in our history. The timing of our 100th anniversary couldn’t be more ideal as we shift to an electrified future, and I look forward to shepherding the brand into the next 100 years.”
As the brand, which was bought by Ford in 1922 just five years after it was founded, celebrates its 100th anniversary and storied past, it is equally focused on the future. Lincoln is committed to delivering a unique lineup of electrified vehicles and connected services that create effortless experiences for its clients.
Jim Farley, Ford CEO and president, said: “As we move toward an electric future with connected technologies and always-on experiences, I am so excited to see where the brand will go in China and North America as it begins its second century.”
To coincide with Lincoln’s 100th anniversary they will launch their first all-electric vehicle this year to catch up with the other big brands who already offering zero-emissions vehicles. Full details have not been released but from sketches, it looks like it will be an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV).
After dragging its heels, the brand is going down the electric route in a big way and anticipates half of its global volume will be zero-emissions vehicles by 2025. Lincoln is looking to electrify its whole portfolio of vehicles by 2030. A radical change after years of 100 years of the combustion engine.
