  • Volkswagen Group-backed Electrify America is opening its first charging location in the coastal Californian city of Santa Monica, helping to meet growing driver demand for ultra-rapid public charging.
  • The new location features 20 of Electrify America’s Hyper-Fast charge points, each capable of delivering speeds up to 350kW – enough to take full advantage of some of the fastest charging electric cars on the market.
  • Situated close to the I-10 freeway, the new charging hub will support both local EV drivers and those making longer trips throughout the Los Angeles area and beyond.

Electrify America continues its EV infrastructure push

Electrify America now operates over 5,000 public charge points across North America, spanning over 1,000 different charging stations. Helping to ease the charging process for customers, the CPO is also offering Plug & Charge technology, allowing drivers of compatible EVs to begin and pay for charging without the need for their credit card or smartphone, with the charger communicating directly with the vehicle.

The CPO is on a path to provide charging locations with a high number of charge points, addressing increasingly high levels of public charging demand, and the new Santa Monica site leads the direction for future Electrify America charging sites.

Robert Barrosa, President and CEO of Electrify America, commented:

“Our station in Santa Monica represents where EV charging is headed. We’re focused on expanding where drivers need us most and building larger stations with more Hyper-Fast chargers. It’s about creating a network that works seamlessly for more people and powering their journeys across North America.”

Despite some setbacks, 2025 is still looking to be a year of advancement for the US EV industry. Crucially, this week, the $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding was unfrozen on a national level, allowing states across the US to continue applying for public charging infrastructure funding. Electrify America is one of the CPOs ready and waiting for states to choose its turnkey solution as part of their prospective NEVI projects.
