- BYD has confirmed that the DENZA Z9GT, part of its DENZA EV subbrand, will be the first EV available in Europe to support BYD’s new FLASH Charging technology, offering charging times as low as five minutes.
- With charging power of up to 1,500kW supported on the DENZA Z9GT, a 10-70% charge can take place in just five minutes – while a 10-97% charge takes a similarly impressive nine minutes.
- The DENZA Z9GT is expected to be debuted in Europe in early April.
EV charging timing meets petrol station timing
Whilst other OEMs stick with ultra-rapid charging speeds such as 400kW, BYD remains adamant that offering these 1,500kW charging speeds will help break down one of the ‘final barriers’ to EV adoption. The new FLASH Charging technology looks to do exactly that, by offering recharging speeds that are comparable with the time it takes to fill up a combustion engined car with petrol or diesel.
With FLASH Charging stations already live across BYD’s home market of China, the technology is expected to be rolled out to EV markets around the world, including Europe in the very near future. However, no BYD Group EVs currently sold in Europe support FLASH Charging’s record speeds, but that’ll soon change with the arrival of the DENZA Z9GT.
The Z9GT, set to debut in Paris on the 8th of April, will be the first model available in Europe to support charging speeds of up to 1,500kW through the FLASH Charging network. Further details on where FLASH Charging locations will be constructed in Europe is expected in due course, following the Z9GT debut.
