Mitsubishi teams up with IONITY for discounted EV charging in Europe

New six-month IONITY trial for select Mitsubishi EV drivers will see public charging rates discounted by up to 40%

After a decade-long hiatus, Mitsubishi has resumed selling fully-electric models in Europe, since last year’s debut of the Renault-platformed Mitsubish Eclipse Cross. Building on that re-entry, the manufacturer has now teamed up with major European public chargepoint provider IONITY to offer new public charging discount offers for its customers.

Mitsubishi bolsters its European BEV push with new CPO partnership

Under the new agreement, Mitsubishi EV owners will have the opportunity to sign up for a six-month free trial to the IONITY Power subscription, allowing drivers to benefit from a discounted kWh rate. At first, this six-month offer will kick off for drivers in Switzerland, with Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and more to join the scheme in the months to come. The discounted rates will apply to 23 of the 24 European countries IONITY operates in. Pricing varies per country, but the scheme appears to give a discount of around 40% per country compared to standard IONITY app pricing. In Germany, for example, the price per kWh drops from the standard app price of €0.68 per kWh to €0.41 per kWh with the IONITY Power plan, while in France, it drops from €0.52 per kWh to €0.31 per kWh.

The partnership adds Mitsubishi to a growing number of OEMs striking deals with CPOs to offer preferential charging rates to their customers. For heavy users, that six-month trial could generate significant cost savings – a 60kWh top-up in France would cost roughly €7 less than standard pricing. It’s a sign that OEMs are seeing not just charging availability, but charging cost, as the next pinch point in convincing car buyers to go electric on their next purchase.

Frank Krol, President & CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Europe, commented:

“IONITY is leading the way with reliable and ample charging infrastructure across Europe’s motorways. This partnership will help our drivers feel more confident in their EVs, reducing range and charging anxiety, especially when driving longer distances.”

Simon Oetter, Head of Product Management and Sales at IONITY, added:

“Strong partnerships are key to accelerating the transition to electric mobility. Together with Mitsubishi Motors, we’re giving Mitsubishi EV drivers easy access to our ultra-fast charging network and helping make every journey simpler, more convenient and more affordable.”
