Ford has revealed the name and pricing of its next electric pickup, and it’s a clear response to Slate Auto’s $25,000 model. The Ford Fathom will have pricing beginning at just $28,350, with preorders available in 2027, and first model arrivals later in the year.
Ford makes its entry into the affordable electric pickup game
There were already signs of this model coming, after Ford revealed the ‘Universal EV Platform’ in August 2025. At the time, Ford confirmed that the first model to be borne out of this platform would be a $30,000 four-door pickup truck, and a year on, it seems Ford has stuck to that aim, with the Ford Fathom pickup confirmed to have prices starting at a significant cut below $30,000.
Despite the low starting price, Ford is positioning the Fathom as more than a budget option. The midsize truck is projected to offer more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, provide quicker acceleration than an petrol-powered EcoBoost Mustang, seat five adults, and include a frunk alongside its bed for extra cargo flexibility. Standard equipment will include a large touchscreen, bidirectional charging capability, and a digital key. Every Fathom is also BlueCruise capable, with the driver-assistance system integrating with Apple Maps, alongside standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Ford’s first electric pickup truck, the F-150 Lightning, was a larger and more expensive model, with prices ranging between $47,000 and nearly $100,000 depending on trim. Despite being well received by those that bought one and carrying impressive towing capabilities and range, it was still widely regarded as a sales failure. Clearly, with the Fathom, Ford reckons it can conquer the more affordable segment of the pickup market, by launching a fully-electric model in the space. It isn’t alone here, however, with Slate Auto’s modular electric truck also starting well blow the $30,000, with first customer deliveries expected later this summer.
