Milence has opened a new heavy-duty charging hub in Deurningen-Hengelo in the Netherlands, becoming its fourth site in the country and also its first site built entirely using zero-emission construction equipment. The hub sits on the A1 motorway, in a key location that sees trucks passing from the Netherlands and Belgium into Germany and beyond. At launch, the site offers five truck charging bays with each offering 400kW CCS chargers.
Milence worked with construction partner Hoogeboom, who supplied the electric machinery, to plan charging schedules and site logistics around the equipment’s needs. This new hub now serves as a test case for future Milence charging hubs, proving that zero-emission construction is possible. It wasn’t just the equipment that was sustainable, but also the materials used, with the canopies constructed from PEFC-certified timber, along with site foundations constructed from fibre-reinforced concrete rather than conventional steel reinforcement.
Every piece of construction equipment used to construct this new site ran on electricity, making it Milence’s first hub delivered without direct on-site fossil fuel emissions. The hub itself offers the capacity to expand as more electric trucks join Europe’s roads. It also helps to strengthen Milence’s presence across the Trans-European Transport Network, a Europe-wide collection of roads which are deemed crucial to cargo logistics across the continent.
