$40,000 XPENG L03 revealed, launching in 65 markets and undercutting rivals on price

XPENG debuts its L03 electric car across 65 countries, becoming a key rival to the Tesla Model Y.

Chinese EV manufacturer XPENG has debuted the L03 at a launch event in Munich, Germany, confirming its intent for this vehicle to be a truly global model – with market entry into 65 countries, including key EV regions such as Europe and China. This makes it XPENG’s most global electric vehicle to date.

The XPENG L03 adopts an SUV-meets-coupe shape, with a sporting silhouette leading to a segment-leading drag coefficient of 0.228 Cd. The L03’s striking design is no coincidence, with the model’s designed being led by JuanMa Lopez – formerly of Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Audi.

Inside, the cabin features a 15.6-inch central display, lounge-style seating, and 37 storage spaces. XPENG also confirmed a partnership with Google Maps for vehicles outside China, giving the XPENG L03 direct Google Maps integration through its built in sat-nav. A towing capability of up to 1,500kg is also impressive, for those looking for the best electric car for towing. Powertrain-wise, XPENG will offer you the choice of either a fully-electric version with a range of up to 323 miles, or a range extender version. Recharging the battery from 10 to 80% takes just 20 minutes, despite the XPENG L03 using a 400V platform compared to the 800V platforms seen on more expensive EVs.

XPENG has already confirmed that the L03 will arrive in Europe at just under €35,000, undercutting similarly sized and equipped rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, which starts closer to the €40,000 mark in its cheapest specification. With the Model Y still Europe’s best-selling EV by volume, the L03 arrives as a direct rival with the potential to become a big hitter across Europe.

He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of XPENG, commented:

“At XPeng we believe that the level of AI technology in our vehicles will be the game changer for the mobility of the future. That is why one of XPeng’s key priorities is to always be among those manufacturers providing the customers with the most advanced technology. We are building a Physical AI company. We want to use technology to change how people move and how people live. We believe technology should be for everyone. Not just for a few people. That’s why we work to bring smart technology to more people around the world.”
