Vattenfall has agreed to acquire 100% of Swedish ultra-fast charging company Nima Energy, folding its network into the utility’s InCharge emobility business. The deal covers Nima Energy’s Swedish operations only, with its activities outside Sweden remaining with the current shareholders.
Nima Energy has built a strong position in Swedish ultra-fast charging since its foundation, developing high-capacity public charging in both urban locations and along key transport routes. Its network serves both professional drivers, including taxis and fleets, and private EV drivers – a customer mix that makes utilisation rates healthier than networks reliant on occasional long-distance traffic alone.
For Vattenfall, the acquisition bolts a ready-made network and roll-out pipeline onto InCharge’s existing infrastructure. The Swedish state-owned utility has positioned e-mobility as a core part of its push towards fossil-free living, and buying an established operator is a faster route to scale than building sites from scratch. For Nima Energy, the deal brings a well-capitalised long-term owner with the resources to accelerate the continued build-out of its network.
The acquisition fits a growing trend of utilities firms buying their way into the EV charging market. Consolidation has been gathering pace across the sector as smaller operators struggle with the capital demands of ultra-rapid charging hardware and costly grid connections, while larger energy companies look to aqcuire attractive public charging locations before the market matures.
Marcus Landelin, CEO and Co-founder of Nima Energy, commented:
“It has been an extraordinary journey to build Nima Energy into the company it is today. We are immensely proud of the team, the network and the market position we have created together. We also firmly believe that the next phase can be even more exciting, and that Vattenfall is the right long-term owner to support Nima Energy reach its full potential.”
Henrik Nordström, Director E-Mobility Nordic at Vattenfall InCharge, added:
“Nima has built an impressive ultra-fast charging network in attractive locations across Sweden, making it a strong addition to Vattenfall InCharge’s existing infrastructure. We are pleased to welcome Nima’s talented employees and look forward to continuing to provide Nima’s customers with the high level of service they expect. Together, we can accelerate the expansion of charging infrastructure and support the growing transition to electric mobility across Sweden.”
