Skoda begins production of its cheapest EV, the Skoda Epiq

Skoda's cheapest EV enters production in Northern Spain, joining other affordable Volkswagen Group EVs.

Skoda has kicked off production of its fully-electric Skoda Epiq, now rolling off the production line at Volkswagen Group’s car plant in Pamplona, Northern Spain. The Epiq is one of four models now being launched within Volkswagen Group’s ‘Electric Urban Car Family’, which is also made up by the Volkswagen ID. Polo, CUPRA Raval, and Volkswagen ID. Cross. It was only last week that the Polo and Raval also began production at a separate car plant near Barcelona.

The Pamplona plant will also manufacture the Volkswagen ID. Cross, which shares its underpinnings with the Epiq through a common platform. Across all four models in the Electric Urban Car Family, extensive parts-sharing has been the key to achieving record-low pricing, allowing the quartet to become some of the cheapest electric cars available in Europe. This pricing strategy visibly pays off with the Skoda Epiq. When it goes on sale, it’ll become Skoda’s most affordable fully electric vehicle, with prices starting below £25,000 / €25,000 across Europe. It’ll also reach price parity with its petrol-powered sibling, the Skoda Kamiq, in another milestone for EV affordability.

Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, commented:

“Launching production of the new Škoda Epiq is a historic moment. With the momentum of Brand Group Core behind it, we’re making fully electric driving more reachable than ever – great value for money, designed for real life, and ready to welcome new customers, including those who want something a step above. Over the past years, Enyaq and Elroq have reached record sales across Europe – proof that progress can be both inspiring and accessible.”

Andreas Dick, Skoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, added:

“The Epiq is the first Skoda model ever to be produced in Spain. This step highlights the strength and adaptability of our production network. By efficiently balancing capacity across the Volkswagen Group, we can support the ramp-up of key electric models while maintaining high production quality and competitive costs – all of which directly benefit our customers.”
