Pod acquires EO Charging, expanding its commercial charging offerings

Pod buys EO Charging to strengthen its UK fleet EV charging and energy management capabilities.

UK EV charging provider, Pod, has announced the acquisition of fleet charging firm EO Charging, in a move that significantly bolsters its commercial and energy management capabilities.

EO Charging has built up a strong reputation by helping large firms manage their EV fleets, previously including DHL, Amazon, and Tesco. Its depot charging platform is designed to maximise the potential cost savings of an EV fleet for businesses, by optimising energy usage and monitoring charging performance.

Pod’s acquisition of EO Charging is therefore a strategic one, coming at a time when more and more businesses are actively or considering making widespread switches to electric vehicles. With the possibility of grid constraints this brings, the acquisition of EO Charging’s software-led solution will help fleets optimise energy usage to a tighter level, ensuring that existing energy capacity can be utilised to its highest potential.

For Pod, it also marks an extension of its business that already covers the areas of domestic, workplace, and public charging, and it cements the firm’s position as one of the largest EV charging providers in the UK.

Looking ahead, the combined business, working alongside energy partner EDF, aims to integrate depot software, energy supply, smart management, and flexibility trading into a joined-up offer for fleet operators.

Melanie Lane, CEO of Pod, commented:

“We’re delighted to welcome EO Charging into the Pod family at such an exciting moment for fleet electrification, with their specialist depot charging capabilities strongly complementing Pod’s existing strengths in smart charging and flexibility. Together, we’re expanding Pod’s role at the centre of the UK’s shift towards smarter, more connected electric mobility.”

Philippe Commaret, Managing Director for Customers at EDF, added:

“EDF’s purpose is to enable a more electric Britain. Helping our business customers reduce their bills and increase their competitiveness is central to our strategy. This acquisition allows our Pod subsidiary to help vehicle fleets benefit from electrification, improving their efficiency while also reducing their carbon emissions.”
