Stellantis and Chinese OEM Dongfeng have announced a deepening of their existing partnership, which will see the two manufacturers share production of Peugeot and Jeep-branded vehicles – to be sold not only in China, but in countries across the world. The duo have already operated a joint venture, DongFeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile (DPCA), for 34 years.
The vehicles set to be produced under the agreement will be so-called ‘New Energy Vehicles’ (NEVs), which covers a variety of electrified drivetrain types, including plug-in hybrids and fully-electric power. Stellantis says the new extended partnership will bring ‘cutting edge EV technologies’ to the joint venture.
With the new agreement, the joint venture is set to produce two Peugeot-badged NEVs at DPCA’s Wuhan plant from 2027, with these cars being based off the Peugeot design concepts seen at last month’s Beijing Auto Show. In addition, two Jeep-badged NEVs will also be produced at the plant, with production starting in the same year.
All these cars will be sold in both China and global markets – but the exact territories here are yet to be confirmed.
Antonio Filosa, Chief Executive Officer of Stellantis, commented:
“With a track record of more than 30 years of collaboration and shared automotive expertise, Stellantis and Dongfeng are ready to further leverage their strengths and introduce all-new vehicles with cutting-edge EV technologies from brands that customers worldwide trust and love. We look forward to this project and to collaborate even more in the future.”
Yang Qing, Chairman of Dongfeng Group, added:
“Dongfeng Motor has always taken the transformation and revitalization of Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile Co., Ltd. (DPCA) as a key strategic priority, fully supporting and advancing its sustainable development. Through the signing of this strategic cooperation, by integrating Hubei’s industrial strengths, Stellantis’ global layout advantages and Dongfeng’s intelligent electric vehicle technologies, a new path featuring complementary strengths and win-win outcomes for all parties has been forged. This will undoubtedly inject strong momentum into DPCA’s transformation.”
