KEBA expands KeContact P40 EV charger range with new Type 2 socket variant

KEBA unveils new socket-only EV charger, designed for high traffic and public environments.
  • Austrian EV charger specialists, KEBA, have released a new Type 2 socket variant of its KeContact P40 EV charger, targeting semi-public and public charging locations.
  • A modular design and integrated safety features are set to reduce installation and operating costs.
  • The futureproof hardware supports photovoltaic charging, OCPP backends, and bidirectional upgrades.

KEBA’s EV charger moves into the public charging sector with new variant

Originally introduced in 2024 for home charging, the KeContact P40 has already been deployed at scale for domestic use and has built a reputation for reliability and robustness. With the addition of a this new type 2 socket-based version, KEBA is adapting that same platform to the tougher requirements of public and semi-public charging infrastructure. Replacing the fixed cable with a Type-2 socket will allow EV drivers to use their own cable, improving long-term durability while reducing the risk of cable damage resulting from theft or vandalism, which has become increasingly common at many public charging locations.

At the heart of the P40 is KEBA’s modular system concept, designed to keep total cost of ownership low for chargepoint operators. An integrated RCD anti-shock device minimises the need for additional hardware surrounding the charger, whilst the modular construction allows servicing and repairs to be carried out directly on site. For operators managing large numbers of charge points, this should translate into lower installation costs and reduced downtime.

The P40 has also been future proofed with bidirectional charging capabilities, which can allow for vehicle-to-grid functionality in future software updates.

Stefan Richter, CEO of KEBA Energy Automation, commented:

“With the KeContact P40 featuring a type-2 socket, we are expanding a product that has already proven itself many times over for professional use. The fact that the KeContact P40 was only recently awarded ADAC test winner for company car chargers underlines our commitment to quality, reliability and real-world suitability. Operators benefit from a modular design, low operating costs and a charging solution that performs reliably today while being well prepared for future requirements.”
