- Decathlon Pulse, the investment and start-up arm of sports retailer Decathlon, has acquired a majority stake in German ebike recommerce firm, Rebike Mobility.
- The partnership strengthens circular economy ambitions, and is set to expand consumer access to second-life, more affordable ebikes.
- Following a successful ‘shop-in-shop’ pilot scheme, offering refurbished ebikes within a Decathlon store, the stage is set for a wider European rollout.
Decathlon moves deeper into the used ebike sector
Decathlon, through its Decathlon Pulse investment arm, has increased its commitment into the used ebike sector. After making a significant investment in Rebike Mobility back in 2024, the firm has now expanded that investment to become a majority stakeholder in the company. Rebike Mobility’s ebike refurbishment and resale operations mark a lower price barrier to ebike ownership, by extending the life of high-quality bikes from well-known brands.
Following the acquisition, Rebike Mobility will continue to operate independently. However, the increased ability to access Decathlon’s retail reach could help Rebike Mobility to expand its operations further across Europe. So far, Rebike Mobility only operates in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, whilst Decathlon has a Pan-European retail reach.
That expanded potential for Rebike Mobility is already evident on the shop floor. Since March last year, Decathlon and Rebike have piloted a ‘shop-in-shop’ concept in several German locations, combining Rebike’s refurbished ebikes with Decathlon’s buy back system. Through 2026, the pair hope to expand this concept to another six locations.
Franck Vigo, CEO of Decathlon Pulse, commented:
“Becoming the majority shareholder of Rebike Mobility marks a natural next step in a partnership built on shared convictions and values. We are proud of the journey achieved together so far and of the impact Rebike is creating at scale. This partnership reflects our ambition to back strong entrepreneurial teams and to help turn circular mobility into a lasting solution for Europe.”
Thomas Bernik, Co-Founder and CEO of Rebike Mobility, added:
“With this expanded strategic partnership, we are combining our expertise in recommerce and refurbished e-bikes with Decathlon’s reach, retail expertise and global presence. Together, we are creating a sustainable, customer-centric omnichannel offering that unlocks new target groups, guarantees service quality and at the same time strengthens the economic success of both brands. We would like to thank our investors, former shareholders and all employees for this major success. We are proud to reach this milestone in our company’s history and look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Decathlon team in Germany and subsequently in other markets.”
